Elsewhere, Disney plans to hire most of Character.AI's staff and acquire some assets. On the open-source side, Meta released Muse Spark Open, which runs locally on Apple devices.

Anthropic pledges 5% stake to public benefit fund, with top-ups as valuation grows
Anthropic said it will place an initial 5% of its shares into the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a wholly owned LLC that will make public-interest donations, including efforts to soften AI's impact on jobs. Techmeme reports the fund adds another 2% each time the company's valuation rises 50% and cannot lobby. The first 5% still needs shareholder approval and is worth about $48 billion at its May valuation.

Meta Open-Sources Muse Spark Open for Local Apple Silicon Deployment
Meta has released the weights for Muse Spark Open on Hugging Face, an 816B-parameter MoE model with 42B active parameters and a 1M-token context window, aimed at coding and agentic tasks. Optimized for Apple's MLX framework and Apple Silicon unified memory, it can run on two maxed-out M5 Ultra Mac Studio machines or on four Blackwell Ultra GPUs. Developers note it leads in tool calling but trails Chinese open-weight frontier models in pure coding and general intelligence, and it ships under Meta's own Muse Model License rather than Apache or MIT.

Reuters, citing sources, reported that Nvidia has asked Samsung, SK hynix and Micron to produce base dies for its custom NVHBM memory using TSMC's 3nm process. Samsung has agreed, which would mark its first use of TSMC's process. The base dies are a key component for high-bandwidth memory used in AI accelerators.

Anthropic grants METR employee-level access, waives veto over findings
TechCrunch reports that Anthropic has given METR researchers employee-level access to its internal operations and waived its right to block publication of evaluations. METR will independently publish assessments of Anthropic's risks, incidents, and practices — an unusual arrangement for an AI lab to accept.

The hot board is a rolling 48-hour window that keeps changing; the daily briefing is frozen once a day so you can look back at what happened on a given date. Both use the same events and the same heat rule: each independent source counts once, decaying with a 24-hour half-life.Open the industry updates board →
