Cloudflare open-sources cf, a CLI built for AI agents, in public beta

On October 19, 2026, InfoQ Chinese reported that Cloudflare had released cf, an open-source command-line tool built around AI agents, and opened it to public beta. Written in TypeScript, cf offers structured JSON output and command discovery, and is designed for both AI agents and developers calling Cloudflare services. Cloudflare senior product manager Matt Taylor and senior systems engineer Samuel Macleod explained the motivation: Wrangler was assembled by hand, with each product team contributing according to its own command-line experience, so enforcing a single pattern across roughly 280 command paths was nearly impossible. Terms such as d1 info, hyperdrive get and workflows describe were not consistent between teams. cf was therefore built from scratch to escape Wrangler's historical compatibility burden and to adopt an agent-centric design without conflicting with behavior LLMs had already learned from Wrangler. According to the report, cf draws on OpenAPI schemas to cover more than 3,000 API operations, compared with about 280 built-in Wrangler commands, and Wrangler is to be phased out over time. The report also said the cf CLI follows the Apache license, though the source text was cut off before the full license name appeared.
