Developer deploys personal AI reminder bot on Cloudflare free tier

On November 4, 2026, a developer posted on V2EX describing a personal AI reminder bot hosted on their own Cloudflare account. The stated motivation was to stop paying subscription fees for a lightweight, once-a-day check on whether some resource has been updated. In most cases the bot has nothing to report; when something actually changes, the developer would rather have it come to them in WeChat or Telegram than open another app to look.

Architecturally, the bot keeps its conversation, task, and bot state in Durable Objects, with data stored in SQLite. It calls Workers AI's Gemma 4 26B model and needs no API key. On the free plan it receives 10,000 neurons per day; once the quota runs out, billing does not resume and service is paused until 00:00 UTC (08:00 Beijing time), with metered charging applied only to paid accounts.

Resumability is built on @earendil-works/pi-durable (MIT licensed): every step is written to storage before it is surfaced, so if a process is interrupted execution restarts from the last committed step. Replaying the same request returns the original result rather than running twice, and the same guarantee applies to tool calls and approvals.

Delivery works through either Telegram or WeChat, with only one channel enabled at a time. Both channels accept images and voice messages. On the WeChat side, voice is delivered as text that the protocol's server-side recognition has already produced, so no audio is downloaded and no SILK decoding happens; on Telegram, voice is transcribed first.
