Anthropic opens public beta of Claude for Google Workspace

Anthropic announced on October 6, 2026 that Claude for Google Workspace has entered public beta, and that the integration is available on all paid Claude plans. With the add-on installed, Claude shows up as a sidebar next to the file a user currently has open, rather than in a separate chat window. According to Anthropic, from that position it can read and act on the contents of the open document, spreadsheet, or deck directly.

The sidebar works inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Anthropic's description of the beta emphasizes that users work with the assistant inside their open files, so the file itself stays on screen while Claude is being used.

Released alongside the Workspace beta are new Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors, which are also in beta. These connectors serve a different job: they let Claude create and edit Google files from inside the Claude chat, so a user can start in a conversation and produce or revise a document, spreadsheet, or presentation without leaving that chat.

The two pieces of the rollout therefore split into an in-file experience, where Claude sits in a sidebar beside the open file, and a chat-based experience, where the connectors reach out to Google files on the user's behalf. Both are described as beta, and both are tied to paid Claude plans.

No end date for the public beta was given, and Anthropic has not stated when the integration or the connectors will move out of beta or become available to users on free plans. For now, the announcement leaves the feature at the public beta stage for paid subscribers.
