Kimi K3.1 Pro debuts as top open-weight model in agent cyber defense

Moonshot AI has released Kimi K3.1 Pro, with API access at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, and full weights promised by November 4, 2026; a Highspeed variant runs 2-3x faster at double the price. Artificial Analysis ranks it first among publicly available models in agent cyber defense with a 64% Cyber Index score, behind only the restricted GPT-6 Sol (Daybreak Blue), though its $2.81 per-task cost exceeds GPT-6 Sol's $1.77 and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017's $0.42. Reports differ on scale, citing either 2.8T total and 104B active parameters or roughly 3T.

OpenAI moves frontier model training offline with cached indexed web data

OpenAI said frontier model training and evaluation will stop using the live internet and instead run in an offline environment built from indexed, cached web content, with heavy compute spent on red teaming to test the isolation. The restrictions will last until the protections are mature enough, which OpenAI links to risks in its alignment research, monitoring systems, and internet infrastructure security, as well as a Sept. 20 incident in which an internal research model briefly gained limited internet access through a DNS misconfiguration. Training and evaluation were paused after that and resumed on Oct. 1, though no independently verifiable effectiveness data has been shared.

PHP ships emergency patches as exploits hit before AI-discovered flaws are fixed

OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol flagged two severe remote code execution flaws in PHP through the Patch the Planet program, and PHP issued emergency patches. Exploit details leaked before the patch rollout, and attackers moved before fixes landed, even as Cloudflare deployed WAF protections about nine hours before disclosure. Government and corporate sites were taken offline, and hacking attempts surged. PHP 8.1 and older releases no longer receive official updates.

Jack Dorsey announces Dessa full-duplex speech model

Jack Dorsey announced Dessa, a full-duplex speech model reportedly trained only on voice conversations, without text data or pretrained models. Only demo samples are available for now, and the claimed expressiveness edge remains unverified without official details or broader benchmarks.

How is heat calculated?About the board

When several outlets cover the same story it counts as one event. Heat counts how many independent sources discussed it in the last 48 hours, each source counted once, decaying with a 24-hour half-life — so one outlet publishing ten posts does not inflate the ranking. It measures how active the discussion is, not how good the reporting is.

The board is refreshed once a day over a rolling 48-hour window. The trend line samples once an hour: with fewer than three samples nothing is drawn, and gaps break the line instead of counting as zero.

The up/down arrow compares with six hours ago, with natural decay removed: a story only counts as rising when new independent sources joined in the last six hours. Simply getting older does not read as a fall, and the surge badges only appear when new outlets actually pick the story up.

Every entry links back to the original, plus a tool page when we have one. Summaries come from public feeds and remain the property of the original authors; verify important facts at the source.
