Moonshot AI releases Kimi K3.1 Pro; open-weight release set for Nov. 4

Moonshot AI has launched Kimi K3.1 Pro, a MoE model with a claimed 2.8T total and 104B active parameters (IT Home cites roughly 3T), 1M token context, and API pricing of $2 per 1M input tokens and $10 per 1M output tokens, with full open weights promised by Nov. 4, 2026; a Highspeed variant runs 2-3x faster. It is available via kimi.com, Kimi App, Kimi Work, Kimi Code, and Kimi API. OpenAI trains frontier models in an isolated offline environment

OpenAI says frontier model training and evaluation no longer accesses the live internet, shifting to an isolated offline environment built from indexed and cached web content, with red teaming to test the separation. Training had been paused after a September 20 incident in which an internal research model gained limited internet access through a DNS misconfiguration, and resumed on October 1. Bloomberg reports the change also responds to prior incidents involving access to other companies, and OpenAI has not published independently verifiable results.

OpenAI trims pre-money valuation to $1.25 trillion as $30B funding round nears close

OpenAI is closing a round of up to $30B after trimming its pre-money valuation from about $1.4T to $1.25T, a roughly 11% cut, as reported by 钛媒体, with Coatue and UAE-based investors leading and the deal framed as an IPO pre-bridge. Bloomberg cites sources saying the $1.25T figure could instead be the post-money valuation, a discrepancy between the two outlets. The round remains unannounced by OpenAI, and the material does not confirm a final valuation or any IPO timeline.

Google data center logging in Finland draws backlash

Finnish regulators told Google's data center developer Tuike Finland Oy in early October to stop illegal forest clearing immediately, The Guardian reported. Around 526 hectares and 250,000 trees have been felled for a data center, driving wolves into villages and intensifying European opposition to data center expansion.

How is heat calculated?About the board

When several outlets cover the same story it counts as one event. Heat counts how many independent sources discussed it in the last 48 hours, each source counted once, decaying with a 24-hour half-life — so one outlet publishing ten posts does not inflate the ranking. It measures how active the discussion is, not how good the reporting is.

The board is refreshed once a day over a rolling 48-hour window. The trend line samples once an hour: with fewer than three samples nothing is drawn, and gaps break the line instead of counting as zero.

The up/down arrow compares with six hours ago, with natural decay removed: a story only counts as rising when new independent sources joined in the last six hours. Simply getting older does not read as a fall, and the surge badges only appear when new outlets actually pick the story up.
