Google releases Gemini 4 Carbon, first 50% token pricing for select defenders

Google has released Gemini 4 Carbon, a frontier model that leads the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0 with a score of 59, ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 at 58 and GPT-6 Astra at 57. The model emphasizes cybersecurity and long-horizon agentic work, with early access restricted to trusted cybersecurity defenders through the Fairwind program. Pricing starts at $2 per 1M input tokens and $10 per 1M output tokens before a planned increase. Independent testing by aihot reported hallucination rising from 4% to 11% and fewer output tokens than Claude Opus 5.5, though the evaluation setup was not disclosed.

Anthropic Launches IPO as S-1 Reveals Revenue, Cash and Risks

Anthropic has launched its IPO, with its S-1 filing outlining plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. The document discloses that over 80% of Q3 2026 revenue came from new models released within the past six months, cash and short-term investments reached $131.7B, and it cites major supply chain risks and a warning that it could face government retaliation. A Bloomberg report citing sources also suggests Anthropic may reserve 15% to 20% of IPO shares for retail investors, led by JPMorgan, though the prospectus itself has not independently confirmed this.

Mistral releases Mistral Large 4 (Le Chonk) weights as a 1T-parameter open model

Mistral AI has released the weights of Mistral Large 4 (Le Chonk), a 1T-parameter natively multimodal MoE with 49B active parameters per token, on Hugging Face, alongside community GGUF and NVFP4 quants and self-hosting options. Its license adds separate terms for offering the model as a service, while the exact scope of the release has not been detailed. Mistral claims gains in coding and cybersecurity plus better inference efficiency; ZDNet reports it ties Codex GPT-6.1 Terra on Artificial Analysis and competes with GLM-5.3, but those coding and cybersecurity claims lack independent verification. The Decoder says independent testing shows the model is fast and cheap yet scored 26, below DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and GLM-5.3 at 32.

Alphabet says AI search monetizes worse than traditional search, shares fall nearly 10%

Shares fell nearly 10% after earnings; quarterly capex reached $51.4 billion, about two-thirds of it for servers and networking gear, while net income dropped to $26.17 billion from $35 billion a year earlier.

Study finds non-English prompts can cost up to 17x more in tokens

A study published last month by the Coalition for Language Equity in AI Research finds that some languages need far more tokens than English for the same prompt, an effect the authors call an implicit token tax, Solidot reports. Among the 20 most common internet languages token counts vary by 1.5x to 5x, and across 200 languages the cost gap for a single model reaches 17x, with longer prompts also raising latency and shrinking usable context.

How is heat calculated?About the board

When several outlets cover the same story it counts as one event. Heat counts how many independent sources discussed it in the last 48 hours, each source counted once, decaying with a 24-hour half-life — so one outlet publishing ten posts does not inflate the ranking. It measures how active the discussion is, not how good the reporting is.

The board is refreshed once a day over a rolling 48-hour window. The trend line samples once an hour: with fewer than three samples nothing is drawn, and gaps break the line instead of counting as zero.

The up/down arrow compares with six hours ago, with natural decay removed: a story only counts as rising when new independent sources joined in the last six hours. Simply getting older does not read as a fall, and the surge badges only appear when new outlets actually pick the story up.
